A silver plate serving tray inscribed "BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN GLOVER of Marblehead ~~ Is called 'The Father of the U. S. Navy' by selling all of his assets, he personally equipped his regiment of sea~faring men from Marblehead, Salem and Beverly. Glover's Regiment was one of General Washington's most able and trusted. His soldiers~of~the ~sea took the Army across the Delaware, saved the Army at Brooklyn Heights and shared victory at Saratoga. John glover and his men, most able fighters on land and water, are deserving of respect and gratitude forever. ~~ Presented to, U.S.S. Glover by C. Glover Bowes, Swampscott, Massachusetts" |
