Record 487/1139 Catalog Record Objects Exhibit Page Home Search Description  Watercolor painting of the US Frigate Constitution entering Marblehead harbor, April 3, 1814, by Samuel Hanks Bryant signed LRC 198. The unique collection of marine paintings by the watercolorist Samuel Hanks Bryant was commissioned by Dr. Raymond Cole to be a visual reminder of his community's importance to American naval history. In 1975 Sam Bryant began to shape this collection with the paintings of the Hannah, a typical Marblehead fishing schooner that became the first armed vessel to be placed in the service of the Continental Congress. It was owned by Colonel John Glover, commander if the Marblehead Regiment. The collection encompasses the military vessels associated with the town of Marblehead from the American Revolution to the Vietnam War.
