Description The presentation box for the hatchet used to cut the last line launching the USS Mugford on October 31, 1936. The box is mahogany. The inscription is a bronze casting with the image of a destroyer, a rope border, an anchor and the words "U.S.S. MUGFORD, BUILT AT NAVY YARD BOSTON, LAUNCHED OCTOBER 31- 1936, MISS MADELINE ORNE, SPONSOR"
The box has two chrome plated handles, one on each end.
