Description
This Sleigh was used by Dr. Perley Sanborn on his rounds during Marblehead winters early in the 20th century. It transported the doctor to the homes of many of the 2,800 babies he delivered in Marblehead. The sleigh had been stored in the loft of his barn at 79 Pleasant Street and was donated to the Marblehead Historical Commission in December 1987. Dr. Sanborn, remembered as "a character" and eccentric, practiced medicine in Marblehead from 1874 until six days before his death in 1941.
