Description
|
| "Within these pages is contained a genealogy of the Rand Family, Beginning with Francis Rand who came to America with a company sent by Captain John Mason in the year 1631 and carrying through to the present time, the year 1959.
Also there is a most interesting narrative written by one Ebenezer Rand, who was born in 1804 and was still living in 1870 and probably thereafter, to his four sons, William Lucius, John Lindsey, Frank Enoch and Herbert Lincoln Rand."
The above is written on the title page of this paper. The narrative mentioned is the story of Ebenezer Rand. He was born in Marblehead in 1804 and grew up there. As a boy he was apprenticed to a boot maker. When he was a young married man he took a trip to Illinois to visit some friends who had settled there. When her returned to Marblehead he persuaded his family and his wife's family to move to Illinois with him. Much of the story is about starting a new life in the newly opened lands in the Northwest.
