Date Before 1964 (Town had 5 precincts after that) and
Abstract A fire alarm card listing the box numbers and locations of all the fire alarm boxes in the town and adjacent areas and signals for recall (fire all out), Boy Scouts, No School, Military, Auxiliary Firemen, Out of town fire, Water Department, Grass fires, no baseball game, and air raid.
When a fire was reported or other signal was needed the horn on top of the firehouse on School St. would sound the appropriate number of blast to indicate where the fire was or other information. Most homes would have one of these cards.
On snowy days the children would eagerly await the no school signal at 7:15 AM for Jr. & Sr. High school and 8:00 AM for elementary schools.
The horn would also signal two blast at 7:300 Am and 5:00 PM as a test except when a fire was in progress. This gave the time for people without clocks or away from them, 7:30 time to go to work or 5:00 time for supper.
The advertisement on top was for Ford's Jenny Station.
