Collection Marblehead and the USS Constitution
Date 11 April 1925
Abstract A series of four letters written in 1925 when the Navy and nation started to consider what to do with the US Frigate Constitution. Since it was in deteriorating condition should it be rebuilt or not and if not what should be done with it.

Letter A) Written by E. S. R. Brandt, LCDR, USN aide to the Commandant First Naval District, Boston to The Town Clerk, Marblehead on 11 April 1925. In this letter he request information on the ship to help a campaign to raise a SAVE THE CONSTITUTION FUND.

Letter B) A reply, dated May 1, 1925, to the above letter enclosing some information and referring LCDR Brandt to the Marblehead Historical Society for more information.

Letter C) A thank you letter for the above information and telling Mr. Tutt, the Town clerk, that Massachusetts Governor Fuller would be issuing a Proclamation to open the campaign to raise the fund.

Letter D) A letter, dated May 28, 1925, from John F. Mahoney to Mr. Richard Tutt, Town Clerk requesting more information on the Constitution and her crew. Mr. Maloney is the Director of Publicity for the SAVE THE CONSTITUTION FUND.
