He was a Sargent in Glover's Regiment during the Revolution. After the war he became engaged in the shipping business. Mason's son Edward lived in the house for 95 years. He was a caulker and worked in Salem. It was said that an oar found in the cellar was thought to be from a boat that rowed Washington across the Delaware.
