Description
Marblehead Jr. High Archives Historical Building Survey The historical importance of this home is connected with Captain James Mugford, a hero of the Revolutionary War. Sally Griste and Captain James Mugford bought their own house on the corner of Meeting House Lane and Elm Street right after their marriage. Eight months later he was captured and was a prisoner of the British Navy because of his knowledge of the surrounding waterways. Sally rowed out to the British ship and demanded that her husband be released. The Captain admired her courage and let him go. See the newspaper clipping titled How Capt. Mugford Saved the Revolution and other interesting stories of Sally and the history of 32 Mugford Street in the Supplementary Folder.
