Abstract	Marblehead Junior High Archives Historical Building Survey The Prichard House, 4 Linden Street, was originally 4 Laurel Street. The original owner was E. Bassett, a prosperous cordwainer. Bassett sold the house to Ezra Prichard in 1854 and was used by the Prichard family for over 90 year (1854-1944). It was, and still is, located in the Pleasant Street area. In 1852 the Eastern Railroad ran through the Laurel Street neighborhood. Numerous cordwainers living in Marblehead needed transportation to freight their products into Boston so they could be exported. A total of 72 buildings were destroyed in the great Pleasant Street fire and forced a small population of cordwainers to move to Lynn and other surrounding towns.
