Marblehead Jr. High Archives Historical Building Survey
This charming Federalist style home at 9 Pearl Street has many interior and exterior features. It may have been built by McIntyre or his workmen. One interesting sidelight is the McIntyre molding around the fireplace. The Federalist Period lasted from 1780 to 1820. It was America's own style. It was a more sophisticated style than most and more suited to the young country. It was designed by Samuel McIntyre and some homes still bear the famous McIntyre molding. Chestnut Street in Salem, Massachusetts is known nation-wide for its block of Federalist style homes, which are still kept in excellent condition today.
