| This file contains papers from the Town of Marblehead Assessors for the years 1860 to 1869.
The first paper is a 10 page (dated in the year 1866) Act by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to assess each town and city an amount to raise $3,000,000.00. The amount from Marblehead is $8,340.00
The next paper is a letter from the town treasurer to the assessors that town meeting in April 1869 voted that $36,295.00 be raised by taxation to defray the expenses of the current year.
Most of the remaining items were receipts for service of the assessors and supplies etc. needed for their work. The receipts from the assessors had a postage type stamp for 2 cents with the label "U.S.Inter.Rev."
There is: A letter to Glover Broughton, Esq., Town Clerk from William Schouler, Adjutant General of Commonwealth of Massachusetts thanking him for the invitation to visit Marblehead but declining because the press of business. Dated April 11, 1866
A printed, form letter to the Tax Commissioners's's Office listing four items to be printed to "be of service to you in the discharge of your duties"
A printed form from the Secretary of the Commonwealth listing three acts concerning taxes.
