Description 
A collections of receipted invoices from the bell ringers for the Town From 1803 until 1888. During the time span they were paid to ring the bell for the town. Their duties and notes included: Ringing the bell at one o'clock and nine o'clock and for Town Meetings Additional chores were paid for extra Digging graves for inhabitants of the Work House. Suppling Porters (to carry the coffin) $.50 each Ring the bell #1.00 Supply the pall. $.25 Attend the selectmen's meetings 3 meetings $1.00 Care of and repair of the Church clock Hanging the bell Tend and repair the clock Tolling the bell for death of the President, 1841 $1.50 Watching one night, 1841 $1.50 Ringing the bell on the 4th of July and 22nd of February $1.00 Ringing the Baptist Bell Supplying bell ropes Tolling the bell for Judge Story Recording Deaths paid at 10 cents each Tolling Bell for President Tailor on July 10th and July 13th Tolling the bell for Daniel Webesteron Oct. 25th & 29th 1853 Supplying bell rope for E. Church 1847 Care & cleaning the Hearse Ringing the bell for return of soldiers July 29, 1863 Ringing the Bell (Unitarian) Feb 22, 1888 Tolling bell for Gen. Sheridan Crying Notice for meetings Tolling bell 10th & 13 of July 1850 Note: 1804 They were paid for the whole year at $25.00 per year. But by 1821 that had changed to pay for each quarter year at the same rate. In 1860 the rate was changed to $30.00 per year and they were paid for the month or two. But it changed back to $25.00 later. Up to April 1888 all the receipts were hand written on scraps of paper but they were on preprinted Selectmen's Dept. after that time.
