| Paper Back book List of Men Assessed a Poll Tax, Men 70 Years of age and over, and Women 20 Years of Age and over., January 1,1938 also known as nosey books. The cover page, the back page and several of the first pages are printed with advertisements of local merchants. The price of the book is 10 cents. The listing includes the person, Precinct number, street name, street number, last name, first name &inital etc., age, occupation and residence on jan. 1, 1937 if the current resident is a new address for that person. Aliens are designated by the name of native country after "Occupation." It also has a two page "Street Directory" describing where each street is in relation to other streets; and a one page Marblehead Fire Alarme with the phone numbers of the two fire stations and the number of each fire alarm box including six phantom boxes, five boxes in Swampscott and special signals. The special signals included a Boy Scout call, a Harbor call, the all out call, the Life Boat call, the No School call, the WPA Payoff call, the Military Call, The Out of Town Fire call and the Water Department call. |
