Abstract Booklet "Constitution and By-Laws of the Mugford Monumental Association Marblehead, Organized January 20, 1859"

Preamble.
Believing that the memory of our revolutionary heroes should be held sacred in the hearts of our people and that the history of their daring achievements deserves some honorable testimonial to preserve and carry to our children and future generations the record of such self sacrificing and glorious deeds; and believing that the memory of the gallant Mugford, whom the partial historian has neglected to record, should be the first to receive such testimonial at our hands; we, therefore, whose names are hereto annexed, do form ourselves together as the Mugford Monumental Association, whose object is to erect a Monument at some convenient spot, upon which shall be inscribed the glorious deeds of that truly heroic and patriotic captain, who in the service of his country, sacrificed his valuable life, that his children and his fellow-citizens might enjoy the blessings of Liberty.
