The preface explains this booklet. "The design of The Marblehead Manuel is simply to put on record in some permanent form, materian relating to the history of the town of Marblehead, which might, otherwise, be lost. All that is claimed for the work is that it is a compilation of facts which may prove valuable and interesting for reference. The kindness of my friend Mr. Samuel R. Adams, to whom I am indebted for many favors, deserves recognition here , and he has my sincere thanks.
