| Abstract |
One page showing the first known Seal of the Town of Marblehead. The first elliptical seal of Marblehead was reproduced from an oldtime seaman's certificate dated 1804. The present town seal came during the days of Marblehead's enterprising fishing fame. The seal was once described as demonstrating, "an enterprising fisherman in his dory at the Grand Banks on a morning before sunrise, after his vessel's morning catch. He has thrown out his line and found a fish as alert as himself and is pulling him in, all this being represented by the design."
