"In presenting this history of the experiences of the Salem, Beverly,Danvers and Marblehead Companies of the Eighth Mass. U.S.V., in the Spanish-American war, the writer is complying with the wishes of hundreds who saw service, and many others who desired a record of Greater Salem's participation in the war.
The records of the men were compiled after great labor and considerable expense, and will be found correct in every detail.
