Subjects This is a biography of Edmund Kimball written by his great-great-grandson, John R. H. Kimball. In the preface the author said "This story is not of those 'who fought the storms, who suffered the fevers, who haggled with [foreign] merchants, . . . and who drank gin or rum on the verandas of trading stations.'" It is more of a 'counting house story' about the codfishery and the shipping business during the period 1817-1867, and the life of a shipowner whose career spanned the period."
