Summary The book tells the stories of twenty towns in Massachusetts, with illustrations. It begins with a poem titled "A Century Old" by Henry Adams for whom the book was dedicated. The Marblehead section begins on page181 and continues on to page 224. The first is a photo of Fort Sewall and the story of the Fort and continues on with the Mugford Monument, Mugford House, Powder House, St. Michaels Church, Old Doak House, Moll Pitcher House, Jeremiah Lee's House, Gerry House, John Hooper House, Robert Hooper House, Agnes Surriage Well and the Old Town House.
On page 339 is a photo of Point Shirley in Winthrop showing the spot where Capt. James Mugford was killed. The next three pages tells the story.

Also included are stories and pictures from the Mugford Monument and Mugford House, the Powder House, St. Michael's Church, Old Doak House, Moll Pitcher House, Jeremiah Lee's House, The Gerry House, John Hooper House, Robert Hooper House, Agnes Surriage Well and the Old Town Hall. On page 339 is a photo of Point Shirley in Winthrop showing the spot where Captain James Mugford was killed. The next three pages are about Mugford. A further account of Capt Mugford will be found under "Marblehead" on pages 85-91. The "King" Hooper house is on pg. 88.
