Abstract Marblehead Junior High Archives Historical Building Survey

The original owner of the house on 56 Lee Street was Thomas Rhoades. He was a shoreman during the early 1700's. It is located a short distance from Abbot Hall. It is said by the current owner that the house was once connected by a tunnel to the house next door, which was a tavern. Thomas Rhoades often spoke of a relative, Samuel Rhoades, Jr. He was a historian and also wrote articles for the Boston Post and the Boston Globe. He was the author of "History and Traditions of Marblehead". It is said that he was hung for the practice of wizardry during the Salem Witch Trials.
