Description
Marblehead Jr. High Archives Historical Building Survey Prior to 1757 the house that was later known as the Azor Orne Place was owned by Samuel Dixey, a prominent Marbleheader. On July 6, 1757, through the instrument of a deed, the land and house was conveyed to Col. Azor Orne. The ownership went to his children and widow after he died in 1796. Marquis de Lafayette came to Marblehead and visited the home of Col. Orne. As a token of his friendship he gave a young pear tree to Orne which was planted in his garden and is still standing today. See the story of Colonel Azor Orne (1731-1796) on page five.
