Description
Marblehead Jr. High Archives Historical Building Survey There are many notable features in this home at 23 Watson Street including beams with lambstone carving, original floorboards and the original rock wall inside and out. Knott V. Martin, Postmaster of Marblehead, lived in the house. Mr. Watson, for whom the street was named, lived in the other half of the house. ( When the town decided that they needed another street in this location, the street went through the middle of the house, and that is why half of the house is on one side of the street and the other half is on the other side. ) The Historical Society of Marblehead did not recognize this house as pre-1700. Since the house was cut in half there were twice as many deeds to trace and since there was another house nearby, it was difficult to research which house to trace.
