Abstract A blank book with23 handwritten pages of Alfred Aiken's experiences during the American Civil War, first as a short term soldier on the way to defend Washington DC at the very beginning of the war. The second part was his account of service in the US Navy aboard the USS Ino, Captain Perk Cressy commanding, on a cruise to locate the Sumter a Conference ship acting as a privateer.
