Abstract Writeup done by Larry Doliber for a Connecticut fire museum describing the Marblehead Hook, Ladder and Sail Company. The writeup describes the start of the "Washington Hook and Ladder Company" in 1850 which was housed in what is today the Oko's at the corner of Washington and Middle Streets. The writeup gives some details of the group's history and describes the use of old fishing boat sails to help protect the roofs of houses from catching fire due to a fire in a nearby building.
