Summary This book recounts the life of the ship USS Essex which was built in Salem MA in 1799, paid for by public subscription and given to the US Navy. It had a successful life capturing enemy merchant ships and protection American merchant interest until it was taken at Valparaiso by the British Navy during the War of 1812 and renamed HMS Essex.
This book is noted as "Uncorrected bound galleys"
