Description 
The life of John Chadwick known as "Skipper" or Cap'n Chadwick the father of the author. He was born on November 18, 1809 and died on March 21, 1896. He went to sea, as did many of he relatives and other Marbleheaders did, as a young man and rose to command a ship. In later life he turned to making shoes. This was typical of many Marbleheaders in the 19th century.
