| The newspaper of the USS Marblehead. Dated March 30, 1940, Cavite, P. I. The Cover is on green paper and has a drawing of BM2 Pope sitting on a GI can saying to himself "Who Done It," drawn by Perry Field. Page 1)This page contains The Masthead, (a newspaper term for info on the publisher, editors etc.) and contains a page of advice about "Getting Along." Page 2) This page contains a list of the pay of various rates in the Navy in the year 1868. The best paid were Master at Arms, Machinist, and Stewards to Commander in Chief at $40 per month. The lowest paid were the Boys, 1st class $10, 2nd class $9, and 3rd class at $8 per month. The bottom of the page has a space fill about a lack of sleep. Page 3) This page contains five "Did You Know" items, first about Alfred Thayer Mahan, second a special gun, third the government debt, fourth the first transatlantic flight and last the cost of battleships. Page 4) This page is a poem of an old salt comparing the Old Navy with the modern one. |
