Description
Marblehead Jr. High Archives Historical Building Survey Mary Glover was the wife of the second Robert Hooper to own this lovely home at 181 Washington Street. She was the daughter of Gen. Glover. General Glover used to visit often. Mary Glover was an elegant lady and loved giving lavish parties in her home. She was so prominent and so well known that in 1824 Lafayette made a call on her and had tea. General Lafayette seemed quite taken by the lovely socialite Mrs. Hooper. Her home was the site for another historical visit - this time it was General George Washington. The Hooper house during Mary Glover's time was the center of the town. It was visited by many important people. See newspaper clippings from Feb. 1929 in the Supplementary Folder (Cont.) with the green binding.
