Description 
According to these files the state legislature passed a law in 1843 requiring corporations to send a list of stock holders to the assessors of each town residing in their town together with the number of shares and the value of them. This act was titled "An Act for the more equal Assessment of Taxes" List of banks and corporations in this file: Combine Banks of Boston (sic) Working men's Loan & Fund Association Granite Bank Massachusetts Cotton Mills Commercial Bank, Salem Fairhaven Bank Warren National Bank South Bedford Copper Company Commercial Bank of Salem Bank of General Interest Robbins Cordage Co. of Plymouth Shawmut Bank State Bank of Boston Boston and Lowell Railroad Corporation Merchants Bank of Salem
