Abstract This file contains receipted invoices and other items pertaining to the ringing of the town bell or bells and care of the clocks for the 19th century broken down in 10 increments.

1800) 1 invoice for 1802 &1803 fromTheodore Morgan for care of clocks "in the Church", $23.25

1810) 4 hand written invoices for ringing the bells and 1 for tending the town clocks.

1820) 5 handwritten invoices for ringing the bells, 1 invoice for striking the bell for 4 Funerals at the Poor House, 1 notice the the Church bell or the bell for the Town that it has been muffeled, 1 an offer of a reward of $5.00 from the Selectmen by the town Treasurer, John Prentiss in 1823.

1830) Four handwritten invoices for rining the bells 1833 by four different men.

1840) Twenty three handwritten invoices for ringing the town bells on a regular schedule and Feburary 22nd and July 4th or tolling for the dead.

1850) Twenty nine handwritten invoices for ringing the bell for the Town, tolling the bell for the dead and making returns of the dead to the Town Clerk.

1860) Fifty Eight handwritten invoices invoices for ringing the bell for the Town, 8 from 1862, 1 from 1863, 5 from 1864, 6 from 1865,
7 from 1866, 11 from 1867, 10 from 1868, 10 from 1869. Additional duties included reterns of deaths, Ringing bell for July 4 & 5, police duty on July 3, 4 & 5, supplying a coffin and burial of a child and crying State Aid on Jan. 1, Feb. 4, March 4, April 1, May 4, June 3 and July 7.

1870) Twenty eight hand written invioces (one is on a printed letter head) for ringing the bell for the town and other duties. One is a pitition signed by 20 men "that the bells be tolled on account of the death of Charles Sumner March 1874."
In addition there were 9 invoices for bell ringing for 1870, 1 for 1875, 7 for 1876, 5 for 1877, 4 for 1878, and 1 for 1879.

1880) Eighteen hand written invoices for ringing the bell for the town and other duties and Nine on forms from the Selectmen's Department.
There was one for 1880, 8 for 1881, 5 for 1883, 1 for 1884, and12 for 1885.

1890) Eighty six invoices for ringing the bell for the town and other duties on printed forms and nine on handwritten slips.

There were 10 for 1890, 12 for 1892, 8 for 1893, 16 for 1894, 11 for 1895, 9 for 1896, 10 for 1897, 12 for 1898, 1 for 1899 and 4 with no complete year date, for a total of 95 for 1890's

Another list has names of men who were Bell Ringers in various years in the 1800's. (written in ball point pen)
