| Abstract |
This file contains two sets of papers concerning bequest to the Town of Marblehead. The first is from A. S. Courtis for $5000.00 with the provision that the town pay to the other three heirs 5% of the $5000.00 yearly until they are all dead. The Selectmen appoint a committee to decide if the Town should accept the bequest and terms. The committee is split. The majority want to accept the terms but a minority present a three page report with figures that show it might be a bad idea to accept. A petition is drawn up to hold a Town Meeting to decide. A warrant is issued to call that Town Meeting.
The second bequest is from William Micklefield . It was in stock which was originally valued at "four or five thousand dollars" and has now depreciated to "about thirteen hundred Dollars." The heirs now "are willing to give the town of Marblehead the above named sum ($300.00 mentioned above) in consideration of their relinquishing all their rights and title to the same." There are no papers to know the Town's decision.
No results is noted in these papers. |
