A page from the notebook dated January 28th, 1957 tells the story of the 10th Deck. 'Members of the 10th Deck Division including officers and personnel numbered 70. As of December 1956, there were 37 living members and 33 deceased members. Historically this is the log..........the company was formed January 17, 1916. The company was called into Federal Service March 29, 1917. Assigned and boarded the USS Nebraska, April 1, 1917. War declared April 6, 1917. The Company personnel was absorbed into the ships company of the USS Nebraska as of June 1, 1917. We were enlisted as National Naval Volunteers (N.N.V.) as INDIVIDUALS, not as a company. On Act of Congress in September 1917, we were made United States Naval Reserve Forces. (U.S.N.R.F.).' There are also some newspaper articles, obituaries, two poems and a photo of Vice Admiral Guy Burrage, USN, Commander US Naval Forces, Europe. The 10th Deck lost one man in the war - George Morrill of Swampscott who died at the Naval Hospital in Gibraltar.
