Historical Importance: This house is associated with the Devereux Family: 1) First generation of Devereux's in Marblehead in 1631 received a land grant which included Devereux Beach. 2) A later descendant, General John H. Devereux, donated the painting "The Spirit of '76" to the town in 1880.
Sidelights: Sixteen and one half Franklin St. is currently owned by Mr and Mrs Edward Denis. Originally their house was the barn on the property in 1880.
