Abstract Marblehead Junior High Archives Historical Building Survey

See History of the House located at 50 Humphrey Street on page 35.

Famous People: Humphrey Devereux was a well-known physician in town. Benjamin Devereux marched out with Glover's Regiment in 1776 and then switched to privateering. Burrill Devereux, Latin scholar and schoolmaster, helped establish the Marblehead Academy and, as selectman, was on hand to greet President George Washington in 1789. They were all members of the Devereux family and lived on the Devereux land. It was not until 1800 that the pieces of the Devereux farm were being sold.
