Description 
The newspaper of the USS Marblehead. Dated December 2, 1939, Shanghai, China The Cover has a drawing of a sailor in a flat hat and peacoat standing on a street in the rain with a caption "Out of the frying pan into - ?". It probably refers to the fact they have come from the sunny Philippian Islands to the cold China coast. (Ed. note) Page 1)This page contains The Masthead, (a newspaper term for info on the publisher, editors etc.) It also contains four items from the "Log of the Shanghai Pilot Service" about accidents caused by Shanghai Pilots in the years from 1866 to 1872. The last item tell of a new naval rule that crews of recommissioned ships must remain with the ship for at least a year. Page 2) This page notes the arrival a fleet of speed boats to the Philippines for "Off-Shore Patrol." It also tell of new air bases being built in Alaska and air patrols to cover the Caribbean Sea to protect the Panama Canal. The last item mentions the first ship especially built as a Minelayer to be named TERROR. Page 3) This page has the ship's previous week's schedule written in misspelled words, a paragraph on LOYALTY, a word on a new Navy blimp, a paragraph about retired officers recalled to duty, and a joke. Page 4) This page contains the gossip column "The Long Arm" by Short Scoop. a paragraph about flags at the Naval Academy and another joke. Page 5) A cartoon about a sailor with an extra large coffee cup asking for a cup of coffee and being told "Git."
