The Cover is on green paper and has a drawing of the old year, 1939 in a barrel and the new year ,1940 dressed as a king and telling the old year it was "an old Spanish Custom."
Page 1)This page contains The Masthead, (a newspaper term for info on the publisher, editors etc.) It also contains a description of the difference between the old sailor in the days of Iron men and Wooden ships and the modern well educated and trained enlisted man who in may aspect is better trained than "the average officer in Decatur's day"
Page 2) This page has the end of "New Bluejacket."
It also contains an excerpt from a circular letter about extensions of duty.. It also has the Basketball schedule for January 1940 and the same "Gems of Truth" that was in the 23 Dec. edition.
Page 3) This page contains a description of the ship's dance and "A Sailor's Prayer'" a poem by The Purple Salvo
Page 4) This page is full of ship's gossip.
Page 5) Has a cartoon of a sailor hanging with one hand over the water with one foot hooked on the rail of a motor whaleboat by J. E Owen. |
