| Description |
A B&W photo of a Marblehead Parade on Pleasant St., c. 1905. Several policemen (two in "bobby-style" hats) are leading the parade, followed by a band, then several officials with ornaments of office around their necks, and others behind them coming down Pleasant Street. The YMCA (built in 1910) is not present yet and the Mugford Monument at the corner of Pleasant and Essex (moved from this location to Old Burial Hill in 1912) is visible behind the band. Power and telephone lines/poles (phone service started in 1901) are visible, as are the Pleasant St. street car tracks. A building on the East side of Pleasant St. has a sign for "XXX Boston Express", and an advertising billboard for a theatre event on Oct. 2. The view is from Pleasant St. looking North/Northeast up Pleasant St. toward Essex St. |
